World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.
Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average item level is listed on the character sheet.
The level of an item can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a sign of the item's damage and its quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at a vendor's inventory.
On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its level. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are several theories about how the item level is determined. One theory says that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates the value of an item's stats actually are. It takes into account the fact that various perks have different value, and also that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.
This isn't the only factor that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also alter its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. The affixes could provide the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.
All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.
Players can upgrade an item by specific stats or reroll attaches. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it is an exclusive item or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.
This is another aspect that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to enhance. Similar to base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the chance of finding items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It gives the player the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is especially useful for early game runs, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each item level. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.
Moreover there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be bought from the shop, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it fails.
The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The probability of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..
The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Every item has a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.
The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above items in the inventory. This may obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
